What does CULTURE mean to YOU?
The quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts and scholarly pursuits
A particular form or stage of civilization, as that of a certain nation or period
Development or improvement of the mind by education or training
The behaviours and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group
All of the above

The believes it is the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another. What we choose to practice and learn is what defines us individually, as a community and as a country. So all of the above is correct!
IN September 2010 we celebrated by providing
A place to meet and exchange ideas
Playful ideas and themes
A canvas for drawing and collage by all
The flower of life mandalas for colouring
Refreshments

Culture Days’ aims to:
Foster appreciation and support of the artistic and cultural life that is lived, created and expressed across the country in urban centres and rural communities alike.

Stimulate and strengthen a sense of ownership of arts and culture by citizens in their local communities.
Promote direct interaction between creators and citizens, as a key to increasing understanding and appreciation for art and culture.

Affirm that every citizen is the guardian of the cultural life of his or her community.
Starting in Sept 2010 as an annual coast-to-coast-to-coast Canadian event, Culture Days will feature thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities. Across Canada, these activities will invite the public to participate "behind the scenes" & discover the cultural life of their local community.

There is an open call for all individuals, groups and municipalities to join the movement and offer a free interactive arts or cultural activity during Culture Days in your region. Everyone is encouraged to get involved – whether you are a professional or amateur cultural creator (i.e. artist, artisan, educator, animator, historian, curator, architect, designer, etc), group or organization, including culturally diverse, Aboriginal, urban and rural communities.
There is no fee to register. If you have a free participatory or interactive arts or cultural activity to offer to the public during Culture Days in your region – be it new or something you already have planned...

Culture Days

On Community

by Terry Tempest Williams:

”I have inherited a belief in community, the promise that a gathering of the spirit can both create and change culture. In the desert, change is nurtured even in stone by wind, by water, through time.”

by Joseph Rost:

”In leadership writ large, mutually agreed upon purposes help people achieve consensus, assume responsibility, work for the common good, and build community.”

by Mohandas K. Gandhi:

To safeguard democracy the people must have a keen sense of independence, self-respect, and their oneness.
